On 21st March 2020 President Akufo-Addo of Ghana called on the people of that country to ‘seek the face of the Almighty and pray to God to protect our nation and save us from this pandemic’. He called for a national day of fasting and prayer which was held throughout the country on 25th March. This included a prayer for ‘forgiveness of sins on behalf of the nation and the world at large’…..In the Bible God spoke to King Solomon in this way…’when I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence (eg plague) among my people; if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land’ …(2 Chronicles 7: 13-14). As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we can also seek God during this pandemic, and pray that we, our country’s leaders and people at large will once again know the ‘fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom’…(Proverbs 9: 10).
