THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO CORONAVIRUS

Reading Time: 3 minutes

There once was a great “lockdown” (Genesis 3:24) in a beautiful garden called Eden. It happened because of a deadly infection called Sin marked its footsteps for the first time in the history of humanity. This deadly infection was first passed to human beings by another fallen creature (Genesis 3:1) called Satan (and not the bats). Since then man and woman lost the ability to freely walk with God because of the deadly infection they contracted. So God banished man and woman (Genesis 3:23) from this beautiful garden and they hid themselves from God because of the fallen nature which they inherited along with several other “symptoms” (Romans 1:29-31). Ever since we are living in “lockdown” as we lost the free face to face access to heaven which we once had. (Colossians 1:21)

Because of this Sin, wickedness increased in the earth and God was grieved that he made man (Genesis 6:6). The “R number” sky rocketed. God put number of measures to keep this sin down and “flatten the curve” but he knew there is only one thing that will stop this infection (Hebrew 9:22). So God set a time for that to happen (just like people are waiting for vaccines) and in the meantime he gave the law (Galatians 3:19) and 10 commandments to the people to control this “infection” and bring down the “R number”.

One day God said I am tired of this lockdown and I am longing to see my children face to face and be with them as I once did. So he decided to step down from his glory in heaven and enter the sinful humanity (Philippians 2:6,7) even if it means getting infected and die. So he left the courts of heaven and gave up his throne and came to the earth as a babe in a manger. He was the only person who was without that deadly infection while all the world was infected and facing a death sentence. He lived in this earth for 33 years giving hope to the hopeless that one day this lockdown will end soon. In all these 33 years he never got infected by this deadly sin but one day he took the cross and went to a place called Golgotha (John 19:17). On that cross he willingly surrendered (John 10:18) to be infected by this deadly infection and suffered. The Father in heaven turned his face away from the Son and the Son faced the “lockdown” for the first time (Matthew 27:46). On that cross, there took an unseen “transaction” (2 Corinthians 5:21) that changed the fate of humanity forever. God said whoever believes his Son will be cleansed and healed from this deadly disease (John 3:16). They will get free access to the throne room of God (Hebrews 4:16) and we can worship him in spirit and truth (just like we use Zoom conferencing). So men and women who believed in the Son got freed from this deadly infection and started having fellowship with God in spirit and truth as they met in churches and houses.

But this was only a part of God’s plan to end this lockdown. The Son who died also rose again three days later overcoming death (Matthew 28:5) which once was the ultimate penalty for this infection. Christ thereby proved that sin and death does not have any more hold on humanity. God although enjoyed the fellowship with man in spirit and truth, he promised that the Son will return one day and put an end to the lockdown once and for all. (John 14:3)

On that day we will see him face to face (1 Corinthians 13:12) and we no longer need to worship him in spirit (there will be no more “zoom conferencing”). We can hug him and also our dear ones who the world thought they lost their lives to the deadly infection! (1 Thes 4:16) But because they put their trust in the Son they didn’t lose their life but they only gained it back and this time for an eternity with God (Revelation 20:4). Thus the power of this deadly infection was broken. There will be no more social distancing and no more fear of this sin (Revelation 21:3). For Christ our Saviour has defeated sin and death and those who believe in him will live forever with Him. (Revelation 22:5)
